This set pairs each butterfly with a flower it actually visits: a monarch on milkweed, an eastern tiger swallowtail on a zinnia, a painted lady on thistle, a red admiral on a butterfly bush, a common buckeye on a sunflower, a zebra longwing on lantana, a European peacock on bramble, and a blue morpho on a rainforest leaf. A luna moth under a crescent moon, a garden page with three butterflies among coneflowers and lavender, the monarch life cycle from caterpillar to chrysalis to adult, and a swallowtail landing on an open hand round out the twelve.

The wing patterns are drawn as closed line work rather than shading, so a monarch reads as a monarch and a buckeye as a buckeye once colored, and the flowers give you petals, florets and leaves to fill around them. Outlines are bold on the butterfly and lighter on the plants, every region is closed, and there is no gray anywhere, so the pages print cleanly at home and take colored pencil, marker or watercolor pencil without muddying. Detail is pitched for adults and older kids; the life-cycle page and the butterfly on a hand have the largest, simplest shapes and suit younger children.
